Solved: Audio not working on Windows 10 VM after v u - VMware Technology Network VMTN - Item Preview

I recorded a fresh boot. I've uninstalled the driver, frfe, reinstalled, and rebooted again, but still no "playback" devices and of course no sound. Everything else seems to be running as well as to be expected--not all of VMware's features are available in Win Others have reported that they could get sound working with this version of VMware, but I'm not having any luck. Больше на странице you can tell, I'm no n00b, but it's been awhile since I've messed around with Win98 and might have overlooked something.

Any suggestions? In VMware player you have to manualy edit support in. There was no sound. Of course, that's not compatible with Win98, so deleted the setting and started again. Apparently in this version, VMware tries to guess the appropriate audio device to emulate, sound. It's apparently for a much older version of VMware, Workstation 3. In VMware Player 6, the adapter was installed by default, but not "connected", so I enabled it and selected the audio device on the host machine.

The sound device for VMware was automatically recognized by the guest OS, I didn't have to manually add it. In fact, manually adding an SB16 as the page said didn't work, the driver refused to start. Manually adding a driver for a device that isn't there is like building a bridge to nowhere. My problem seems to be either the SB PCI driver installed correctly, but wasn't properly registered in the audio service, or VMware is failing to communicate with the guess OS properly, but I don't know enough about the Win98 workstatio VMware audio systems to по этой ссылке either scenario.

I've installed sound drivers on real Win98 PCs with the same hardware back in the day and never ran in to this problem. Or I might as well just go back to VirtualPC However, not vmware workstation 12 no sound free sound would be a deal breaker. The new version of VirtualPC works, but has a lot of problems with Win98 as well.

I've tried that page too, which vmware workstation 12 no sound free like it should be the correct set. Vmware workstation 12 no sound free can try reinstalling them all again. Well, reinstalling all that didn't work. I ended up just wiping the whole VM and rebuilding from scratch.

Vmwarf have no idea vmware workstation 12 no sound free was broken but it works now, just like it should have. Before it took about minutes, so I'm guessing that's where vmware workstation 12 no sound free problem was.

Good to hear. Now that we have a thread on win98SE, can you tell me what software you are throwing on there? Major General Thanatos wrote: Good to hear. You mean in Win98? Nothing yet. I was just testing VMware out to see if it's suitable for playing older games that can't run in Winwhich is why the sound issue was such a huge deal. The only real snag I ran into now is that VMware player can't seem to change the monitor resolution in fullscreen mode, or upscale the display to fit the host resolution.

Any resolution below that is just centered in the middle of the screen. For instance, the Win98 boot logo looks like a postage stamp in the middle of my HD monitor. Considering that many games back then used similar resolutions, that's going to be a problem.

According to workstatlon online docs, the commercial "workstation" version has display adjustment options, but I'm not seeing them in the "player" version.

If there's no way around that, I might give VirtualBox a go. Does anyone know how it handles lower resolutions in fullscreen? Major General Thanatos wrote Fear not, it'll bluescreen soon enough. No bluescreen, but I discovered that if you don't install. Glad I saved a copy of the virgin image. Why wkrkstation, I have. But you do realize that even old Windows software actually requires Windows, right?

Yes, but generally there are better ways of running old games that don't involve installing Win98 in a VM. If you're talking about "compatibility mode" in Win7, it doesn't always work.

Even Microsoft's solution for programs that don't work in compatibility mode is to run them in XP on a VM, which they offer to Win7 Pro users for free. I opted for 98 instead because I don't have any XP programs that can't run in Win7, and 98 requires considerably less resources. BTW, if you have an actual recommendation, just come out and say it rather than playing these silly soound. Well, for the purposes of gaming, I've discovered it is well worth the money to just hand your money to GOG.

Kinda like back when I was a vmwarre junkie I handed someone a stack of money to make games work well there I think it was cedega? Quote: BTW, if you have an actual recommendation, just come out and say it rather than playing these silly games. You seem to be getting overly defensive for no reason. I'm giving you the best advice I fdee with the info you've given us. There is so much variation in running older gaming that there is no one size fits all answer.

However for a majority of old games there are simple solutions such as DOSBox or other methods. I'm not saying you might not need Win98 for a specific thing, but for "retro gaming" it is almost never required. I've experience in getting old dos games to run in Windows, all the way back to Win3.

As I said, Vmware workstation 12 no sound free no n00b. And systems like dosbox or scummvm are useful for getting less cooperative ones free 1809 key windows 10 kms client run. However, the problem I was looking to address here is strictly with older windows games. Sure, popular "retro gaming" usually means dos, but some older windows games don't cooperate either and compatibility mode only goes so far. I wouldn't go through the trouble to setup an entire OS if it wasn't necessary.

I used to run 98 in Virtual PC and it worked well enough. Merely wanted to try VMware, only to find that the features Microsoft 2016 cracked free was looking forward to didn't work in I also tried the new version of Virtual PC that was put out for Win7, dound I was having too many compatibility issues with For instance, the new tools don't support older OSs. When I get the chance, I'll give VirtualBox a try.

Try virtualbox? Workstatioon works great for me on it. LordDaMan wrote:. Major General Thanatos wrote:. Wheels Of Confusion. Ars Legatus Legionis et Subscriptor. Have you tried Virtualbox? I'll try it myself once I find my win98 cd. That setup appears to work.
